Irish film - a vital part of the smart economy, offers a vibrant mix of Talent, Creativity and Enterprise.

The following facts of figures may be of interest:

• The Smart Economy Report identifies the arts, cultural and creative industries as key and primary economic contributors.

• The audio visual content production sector in Ireland is worth over €550 million.

• The sector employs over 6,000 individuals, with over 560 small and medium enterprises operating in the sector.

• 88% of Irish Film Board (IFB) funding is channelled directly into the audio visual sector and is part of a developed and integrated financial ecology. The removal of IFB funding would have a severely negative impact on the sector as a whole.  IFB overhead to capital ratio is low at 12%.

• In 2008, the IFB invested €17 million in 36 major film, television and animation productions that resulted in over €80 million expenditure in the Irish economy.

• In 2008, the IFB awarded 225 funding awards to 109 different companies and 21 individuals.

• In 2008, 18% of all tourists (base 233) visited as a result of having viewed Irish Film.  €369 million in tourist expenditure can be attributed exclusively to this.

• Since 2004, IFB productions have spent over €65 million regionally in Ireland.

• Since 1993, IFB productions have attracted over €543 million in international investment.  For every €1 the IFB has invested in a film and television production, over €6 was attracted from international sources.

• Irish Film has won almost every major award available including; Academy Awards ® (Best Song for Once, Best Short Film for Six Shooter), the Palm D’Or at Cannes (The Wind That Shakes The Barley), the Golden Bear in Berlin (Bloody Sunday) and the Golden Lion in Venice (The Magdalene Sisters).
