Exciting New Industry Resources Now Available on IFB Website

17th Feb 2012 Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board (IFB) website has had a refresh and there are some exciting new additions to the site.

Visitors now have access to a variety of free industry resources which include the new IFB MovieMap, the Crew and Services database, the Locations Gallery, the Noticeboard, the Film Directory and the Media Hub and Short Film Channel as well as other new additions including a new image Gallery.

is the new and exciting way of exploring Irish-made film and television.  Combining photographs, movie clips and Google Maps, it is an innovative Irish film experience immersing the visitor in Ireland as a film location.

By showcasing Ireland's ability to double for other places and periods in history it is a useful tool for researching the huge variety of film locations in Ireland and educating foreign producers about Irish-made films.  For example it shows how Dublin doubled for New York in Jim Sheridan's In America and how the Wexford coastline was used to recreate the Normandy Landings in Saving Private Ryan.

Irish film and television plays an important role in the marketing and promotion of Ireland as a tourist destination with 20% of visitors citing film as influencing their choice of destination. This film induced tourism has contributed to tourism revenue valued at €391m in 2010.  The MovieMap has the potential to contribute to the growth of this cultural tourism market as visitors to the site can find out and explore where their favourite films such as The Quiet Man, Braveheart and Ryan's Daughter were filmed.  Visitors can also use the site to map out location trails, for example, the site has a Dublin City walking trail which will take people on a tour of film locations from such films as the Oscar nominated film Once, Michael Collins, Educating Rita and In America.

Other industry resources available on the Irish Film Board website include the Film Directory and the Short Film Channel.  Visitors can watch an eclectic mix of IFB funded short films on the Short Film Channel from live action to documentary, to Irish language shorts to short animations and musicals.   The Film Directory is a database of all films funded by the Irish Film Board and acts as a reference for all the projects.  It is a self service database which has the ability for filmmakers to feature a range of stills, trailers and clips as well as production details of their projects.  It is targeted at international festivals, sales agents, distributors, journalists and the general public to promote Irish films.

Visitors can explore the huge variety of Irish film locations on the Locations Gallery while discovering the wealth of Irish crew and facilities available to them on the Crew & Services database.

The Noticeboard is a great resource to post notices or check out information on festival deadlines, jobs sought, skills offered etc.

Another new addition to the website is the new Gallery which showcases a selection of Irish film posters and IFB ads and artwork.
