20th Jun 2012
The international premiere of GOOD VIBRATIONS will open the 47th Karlovy Vary IFF with Irish films GRABBERS and DREAMS OF A LIFE also screening during the festival which runs from June 29 - July 7.

Directed by husband and wife team Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn (Cherrybomb) with a script by writers Colin Carberry and Glenn Patterson, GOOD VIBRATIONS is a story of Belfast music legend Terri Hooley who determines to go after his goal without any degree of success. It stars Richard Dormer in the title role (Five Minutes of Heaven), Jodie Whittaker (One Day), Liam Cunningham (Hunger), Dylan Moran (A Cock and Bull Story) and Adrian Dunbar (The Crying Game).

GRABBERS, which had its world premiere at Sundance and will open the Galway Film Fleadh next month is screening as part of the Midnight Screening section of the festival.  Directed by Jon Wright from an original screenplay by Kevin Lehane, the film is a comical twist on the classic suburban horror-flick.  The story captures the idyll and charm of a rural Irish fishing village, as the peace of the enchanting Erin Island community is shattered by an invasion of giant squid-like creatures from the sea, known as "grabbers", who start picking off the villagers. Handsome but washed up local policeman O'Shea is forced to sober up and team up with uptight, teetotal policewoman Lisa to protect the island's population from the tentacle, fang-jawed, barb-tongued creatures.

DREAMS OF A LIFE written and directed by Carol Morley and starring Zawe Ashton is a documentary which tells the intriguing story of a young woman Joyce Vincent discovered in a London flat three years after her death and is a quest to discover who she was, and how she came to be so forgotten.
