Irish Film GRABBERS Grabs Glowing Reviews at Edinburgh

26th Jun 2012
Irish comedy-horror GRABBERS has been receiving rave reviews by critics and audiences alike at the Edinburgh International Film Festival this week.

Directed by Jon Wright from an original screenplay by Kevin Lehane, the film captures the idyll and charm of a rural Irish fishing village, as the peace of the enchanting Erin Island community is shattered by an invasion of giant squid-like creatures from the sea, known as "grabbers", who start picking off the villagers. Handsome but washed up local policeman O'Shea is forced to sober up and team up with uptight, teetotal policewoman Lisa to protect the island's population from the tentacle, fang-jawed, barb-tongued creatures.

Some of the positive reviews GRABBERS has been receiving include:

"A very likeable horror-comedy, Grabbers happily lives up to the early hype" Empire Online

"This will be my number one film of the fortnight.... it's funny, suspenseful, scary, deliciously vulgar and delightfully whimsical"  5wordmoviereviews.com

"Not only is it a great monster movie, it's also a brilliant comedy..... may well be the best fun you'll have at the cinema this year" Front Row Reviews

"Grabbers is a movie that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and send you home happy that you made the effort to see it"  My Films Blog

Starring Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia, A Good Year), Ruth Bradley (Love / Hate) and Russel Tovey (Doctor Who, Gavin and Stacey) GRABBERS is set to open the Galway Film Fleadh next month ahead of its Irish cinema release in August.  The film was produced by Forward Films in the UK, Samson Films in Dublin, in association with High Treason Productions, Nvizible and The Salt Company with finance from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ Irish Film Board, the UK Film Council, High Treason, LimeLight and Northern Ireland Screen.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival takes place from the 20thof June to the 1st of July.  Other Irish films screening at the festival include Shadow Dancer and Anton Corbijn Inside Out.
