Major Focus on the Irish Film Industry in LA, San Francisco and New York with Festivals Celebrating Irish Film
Over the coming weeks the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York will play host to the Irish film industry, with three exciting Irish film festivals taking place between September 26th - October 7th
The Los Angeles Irish Film Festival, the San Francisco Irish Film Festival and Irish Film New York have partnered up this year to screen a programme of new Irish cinema including Kieron J. Walsh's JUMP, Kirsten Sheridan's DOLLHOUSE and Lelia Doolan's BERNADETTE: NOTES ON A POLITICAL JOURNEY with members of the Irish film industry travelling to each of the festivals to take part in industry and cultural events. The three Irish film festivals are proudly supported by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB) and Tourism Ireland.
Commenting on the sponsorship James Hickey, Chief Executive, Bord Scannán na Éireann/the Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB) said "These Irish film festivals are wonderful ambassadors for Irish film in North America. They provide an opportunity for filmmakers to present their films to a wider international audience. They also allow the IFB to build a strong profile for the Irish industry in the US and provide a platform for potential local distributors to see Irish films with an audience."
Each of the festivals will screen a host of IFB-funded Irish features, documentaries and shorts including Jump, Dollhouse, Pilgrim Hill, Death of a Superhero, Babygirl, Ballymun Lullaby,The Door, Six Shooter and Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty, Home Turf and The Boy in the Bubble.
Along with the screenings, the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival which runs from September 26th - October 1st will be paying tribute to one of Ireland's most prominent cultural figures Lelia Doolan, while Fionnula Flanagan will be hosting the event "Leading Liberators and the Maddest, Baddest & Most Dangerous Irish Women Anywhere!".
Irish Film New York together with Apple will host a ‘Meet the Filmmakers' event in the Apple Store in Soho on 4th October ahead of the festival which takes place October 5th - 7th. Filmmakers who are set to take part are Kirsten Sheridan, Kieron J. Walsh, Macdara Vallely and Leila Doolan.
- The LA Irish Film Festival will take place from September 26th - October 1st at Aero Theatre.
- The San Francisco Irish Film Festival will take place in the Roxie Film Center September 28th - 30th.
- The New York Irish Film Screenings event will take place at NYU's Cantor Film Center October 5th - 7th with the ‘Meet the Filmmakers' event taking place October 4th. Irish Film New York was created in partnership with the Irish Studies Program at NYU's Glucksman Ireland House.
