THE BOY IN THE BUBBLE wins Audience Award at Palm Springs Shortfest

25th Jun 2012 THE BOY IN THE BUBBLE directed by Kealan O'Rourke has picked up the Audience Award for Favourite Animation Short at the Palm Springs Shortfest in the US this weekend.

The Irish short animation which was written by O'Rourke and Ray Kane and is narrated by Alan Rickman (Harry Potter franchise, Love Actually) tells the story of Rupert, a 10 year old boy who falls hopelessly in love for the first time.  When it all goes wrong, he wishes never to experience heartache again.  Turning to a book of magic, he invokes a spell to shield him from emotion forever.

Produced by Brian Willis for Igloo Films, THE BOY IN THE BUBBLE was funded through the Frameworks Animation Scheme. The film has previously won the Best Irish Animation and Best Short Film at the Galway Film Fleadh last year and picked up the Philips Short Film Award at the IFTA's earlier this year.

The Palm Springs Shortfest is the largest short film festival and market in North America.  The festival which ran from June 19th - 25th and screened over 320 films had a record breaking year with more attendees than ever before.
