The Galway Film Fleadh Gets Underway

The 24th Galway Film Fleadh gets underway today Tuesday, 10th July, and to mark the event, the crew behind Lón sa Spéir will re-create the iconic New York ‘Lunch Atop a Skyscraper' image, taken on the 69th floor of the Rockefeller Building in the autumn of 1932, in Eyre Square in the heart of Galway City. The Galway Film Fleadh, which takes place from Tuesday, 10th July until Sunday, 15th July will feature a host of films, including Lón sa Spéir, which tells the remarkable story of one of the most iconic images of the 20th century.

The opening movie at this year's Galway Film Fleadh is Grabbers. Directed by Jon Wright, the cast includes Richard Coyle of Prince of Persia and A Good Year, Ruth Bradley, best known for her roles in Love / Hate and Love is the Drug and Russel Tovey of Doctor Who and Gavin and Stacey fame. The director will attend the screening of his monster comedy movie, this evening at 7pm at The Town Hall Theatre.

Speaking at the launch, Galway Film Fleadh Managing Director Miriam Allen said: "We are very pleased that Irish film, Grabbers, will officially open our 24th Fleadh. Every year we aim to improve on what has gone before, and the team has done an excellent job yet again this year. I think this programme is our strongest yet and I really hope people enjoy what we have put together."
