Two More IFB Funded Films Added To The Irish Line-Up At Toronto

22nd Aug 2012
The political thriller CALL GIRL and the documentary THE PERVERT'S GUIDE TO IDEOLOGY, have been officially selected for the Toronto International Film Festival, bringing to six the number films funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board selected.   They will now join Neil Jordan's BYZANTIUM, Lenny Abrahamson's WHAT RICHARD DID, Kieron J. Walsh's JUMP and the documentary MEN AT LUNCH directed by Sean O'Cualáin as official selections for the film festival.

THE PERVERT'S GUIDE TO IDEOLOGY directed by Sophie Fiennes is the sequel to The Pervert's Guide to Cinema (2006) and sees the reunion of provocative philosopher Slavaj Zizek with filmmaker Fiennes, now using their inventive interpretation of moving pictures to examine ideology - the collective fantasies that shape our beliefs and practices.

The documentary's Irish producer Katie Holly, Blinder Films said, "I'm delighted that The Pervert's Guide to Ideology has been selected to screen as part of the Mavericks programme at Toronto this year.  The film is a thought provoking, prescient and immensely enjoyable ride with Zizek using films, the media and advertising to examine ideology.  It's been such a pleasure to work with Sophie Fiennes on the film, and to be able to bring it to Ireland, where we had a truly terrific team recreating iconic sets from terrific movies.  I expect the Toronto audience will emerge with their heads-spinning, in the best possible sense."

The Irish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish co-production CALL GIRL has been selected for the Discovery section of the festival and is the feature debut of Mikael Marcimain, one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed directors in Sweden.

Speaking about CALL GIRL's selection, its Irish producer, Lesley McKimm of Newgrange Pictures said "We were delighted to be involved in the film and to have the opportunity to work with the very talented Mikael Marcimain and Mimmi Spang of Garage Film. It's fantastic to see it now launched as part of the Discovery programme of the Toronto International Film Festival."

The Toronto International Film Festival takes place 6th - 16th September.
