KINGS Wins 2007 Directors Finders Series

1st Aug 2007 The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland, in association with the Directors Guild of America, is delighted to announce the winner of the Directors Finders Series 2007 as KINGS directed by Tom Collins.

As the winner of The Directors Finders Series KINGS will be showcased in the state-of-the-art Director's Guild of America Theatre, Sunset Boulevard, L.A on 28th September 2007 to an audience of American distributors, with a view to securing a US distribution deal for the film.

Selected by an international panel of experts and starring acclaimed actor Colm Meaney, KINGS follows the story of a group of six young men who leave their homes in the West of Ireland in the mid 1970's to go to England in the hope of making their fortunes & returning home. Thirty years later only one makes it home - but does so in a coffin. The five remaining friends reunite at his wake and face up to the reality of their alienation as long term emigrants who have no longer have any real place to call home.

This year, SDGI will launch KINGS at a special Awards Ceremony hosted by internationally acclaimed director Jim Sheridan on 23rd August in Dublin in The Clarence Hotel, to precede the L.A Screening Event. This event is being filmed by TV3.

Guest speakers on the night will include John Carney, director of this years' smash hit film ONCE and John Fletcher of Pathe UK, who will be taking part in a Q&A session on distribution/industry issues on the night.

This award is supported by The Irish Film Board, The DGA, The Arts Council, Northern Ireland Screen, Culture Ireland and Screen Training Ireland.
