The Famine Ship

The Famine Ship

In the summer of 1997, the largest bronze sculpture ever executed in Ireland was unveiled in Murrisk at the foot of Croagh Patrick, Co. Mayo by President Mary Robinson. The Famine Ship is the work of John Behan, one of Ireland's most celebrated and respected sculptors, and the film gives the viewer a rare insight into how an artist of Behan's stature approached, through his work, the full horror of the Famine.
