After the death of their mother, Irish youngsters Dara and Eoin are moved to France to stay with their aunt. There the boys befriend the children of an English couple who have bought a dilapidated chateau that they plan to restore. Dara instantly falls under the spell of their young daughter, Bella. Later he finds a ruined house in the woods which becomes the focus of his fantasies of a shared life with her. But Bella finds Dara's behaviour more and more disturbing, and turns her attentions to his brother. Dara's feelings for her, and towards everyone around him, start to get out of hand.
