Irish Feature THE PIER Has World Premiere at Karlovy Vary This Week

The Irish feature film THE PIER written and directed by Gerard Hurley will have its world premiere this week at the prestigious Karlovy Vary International Film Festival this week. It is in Official Competition in the Forum of Independents at the festival which takes place July 1st - 9th in the Czech Republic.

THE PIER tells the story of Jack McCarthy's return to Ireland after 20 years in America to help his ailing father. It stars Gerard along with Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under, High Fidelity) and Karl Johnson (Hot Fuzz, The Illusionist) and was filmed on location in Cork.

Karlovy Vary IFF is one of the oldest and most important international film festivals in Central and Eastern Europe and will screen over 200 films from all corners of the globe. THE PIER will have its Irish premiere during the Galway Film Fleadh which kicks off next week.
