Antonia Campbell-Hughes Selected as a Star of Tomorrow
Antonia Campbell-Hughes has been selected as one of Screen International's Stars of Tomorrow 2011. The annual feature highlights 30 new actors, directors and writers currently generating buzz in the industry.In Rebecca Daly's THE OTHER SIDE OF SLEEP, which screened in the prestigious Directors Fortnight at Cannes, Antonia plays the lead role of Arlene; a sleepwalker since childhood who works in the local factory of the rural Irish town she grew up in. When a young woman is found dead in the woods, Arlene is reminded of her own mothers disappearance 20 years previously and is drawn to the girl's accused boyfriend and grieving sister. Depriving herself of sleep, Arlene finds herself in emotional turmoil as her sleeping and waking realities soon blur.
Of her performance in THE OTHER SIDE OF SLEEP Screen says Antonia gives an ‘intense, internalised performance' and one the ‘audiences cannot forget'.
Antonia is in good company with previous Screen International Stars of Tomorrow including Emily Blunt, James McAvoy and Dominic Cooper.
Campbell-Hughes was shortlisted for the IFTA Rising Star Award earlier this year and previously appeared in Jack Dee's BBC series Lead Balloon, Neil Jordan's Breakfast on Pluto and Alexandra McGuinness Lotus Eaters which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and will be screening at the Galway Film Fleadh.
Antonia can be seen in Rodrigo García's upcoming feature Albert Nobbs with Glenn Close which shot on location in Ireland last year and in the fourth season of Lead Balloon which will is currently showing on BBC Two.
LOTUS EATERS can be seen at the Galway Film Fleadh on Saturday 9th July at 21.00 in the Town Hall Theatre.
