Major International Recognition for the Irish Film & Television Industry as Primetime Emmys Announced

The Irish film and television industry has again received international recognition with Primetime Emmy Award nominations given to the Irish actor Brían F. O'Byrne and the television series CAMELOT, GAME OF THRONES and THE BORGIAS which all have Irish links.

Cavan-born Brían F. O'Byrne has been nominated in the Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie category for his role in the miniseries Mildred Pierce and will face stiff competition from Tom Wilkinson (The Kennedys), Guy Pearce (Mildred Pierce), James Woods (Too Big To Fail) and Paul Giamatti (Too Big To Fail).  O'Byrne has had a packed and varied career with roles in films including Million Dollar Baby and The International and television series such as Flash Forward, Brotherhood and Brooklyn's Finest.

The period drama CAMELOT which shot on location in Ireland last year received a nomination in the category of Outstanding Main Title Theme Music.

Irish director Neil Jordan has been nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for THE BORGIAS which was produced by Dublin based Octagon Films.  The series received a total of six nominations in categories such as outstanding Art Direction, Costume and Cinematography. 

Meanwhile the HBO series GAME OF THRONES which filmed in Belfast and post produced in the Republic received nominations in 13 categories including Best Supporting Actor, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Visual Effects.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on the 18th September.
