New Danny de Vito Feature Film Set for Ireland in 2012 to star Morgan Freeman and Pierce Brosnan

In news announced at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, Danny DeVito is set to direct his next feature film ‘The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle' in Ireland in 2012. The producers of the project have also announced that the film will star Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight) and Pierce Brosnan (The Ghost Writer, Mamma Mia!) and will have an estimated budget of $28 million. An adaptation of the original novel by author Avi (Edward Irving Wotis), the project is set in the 1830's, telling the story of young Charlotte Doyle and her adventures on the high seas with a ruthless captain and a mutinous crew.

Commenting on the news Irish producer Tristan Orpen Lynch said "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle" is a fantastic children's adventure based on a bestselling novel, to be directed by Danny DeVito. It was originally set to shoot in the US but after meeting with Danny and his producers in LA the Irish Film Board facilitated a location scout with him last Spring. We met again with Danny and Morgan in May and we are delighted they have now decided to bring this $28 million feature film to shoot entirely in Ireland next year. This high level production will provide an excellent employment opportunity for Irish cast and crew."

The Irish co-producers on the project are Subotica Films (Song for a Raggy Boy) who will produce along with Irish DreamTime, Revelations Entertainment and Clear Black Films. International sales will be handled by Intandem. Danny DeVito and his producers visited Ireland earlier this year with support from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish film Board to scout various film locations for the project.

The spotlight has been on Irish film at the Toronto International Film Festival this week with Albert Nobbs, Death of A Superhero, The Other Side of Sleep and The Moth Diaries receiving much critical acclaim.

Irish co-production ALBERT NOBBS, which is co-written by Irish author John Banville and is based on an Irish short story and filmed on location in Dublin early this year, has sparked Oscar speculation over Glenn Close‘s performance as the lead role.

Hollywood News said that it was "a wonderful film of self-discovery, of finding love and loving oneself" which had "beautiful, quiet grace, cradled by Close in what amounts to a spectacular performance".  The Guardian gave the film a four star review saying it is "a gripping ensemble piece" and that "Close is terrific".

Meanwhile the Irish film DEATH OF A SUPERHERO has been described by the Toronto Film Scene as "an exceptional coming-of-age story" that "should delight anyone interested in the artistic use of superheroes to relate metaphysical conflict and the violence within".
