FILM 4.0 DIGITAL COMMISSIONING EDITOR
AMONGST NEW INTERNATIONAL GUESTS ANNOUNCED FOR THE INDUSTRY SYMPOSIUM & NEW INDIE VOICES SELECTED
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board (IFB) is delighted to announce their renewed industry partnership with the Darklight Festival, Ireland's digital independent film festival, together with a range of exciting international guests for the industry symposium and a special focus on new independent filmmaking talent.
The IFB will sponsor the Darklight Industry Symposium which will feature a number of key international industry guests participating in the event including Anna Higgs, the newly appointed Commissioning Editor who heads up the Film4 digital initiatives under the brand banner of Film4.0. set to take place in The Factory, Barrow Street, Dublin from the 20th-22nd October.
As part of its increased funding, Film4 is set to take a pioneering role in exploring the digital, online arena through Film4.0, aiming to find new talent and discover new ways of producing, marketing and distributing films and engaging new audiences online. Anna will participate in a panel on new alternative means of distribution which will be moderated by IFB, Production Executive Alan Maher. Anna will join other international industry panellists Hussain Currimbhoy (Sheffield Doc/Fest Programmer), Anna Sissons (DogWoof), Jeanie Finlay (artist and filmmaker) and Rachel Lysaght (producer of The Pipe).
As part of the symposium there will also be a unique opportunity for filmmakers to pitch their project ideas directly to the programmers panel and get feedback in a session called ‘What Programmers Want'. To participate in this session contact pitch@darklight.ie.
Other events not to be missed at the industry symposium include a DIY SFX programme ‘SFX Unplugged' put together by Coatwolf Studios, the producers of Bellflower, a super low budget feature film which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and a interesting workshop on crowd funding, exploring new and alternative funding models.
Commenting on the festival James Hickey, IFB Chief Executive said "The Darklight Festival has earned an excellent reputation for exploring new boundaries in experimental filmmaking, looking at the latest international developments in the space where digital technologies and film converge. This year's symposium will offer up a wide range of events which should be of great interest to an industry audience."
Director Nicky Gogan said "Although grass roots filmmaking has always been on the agenda at Darklight we felt this year it was particularly fitting to really put a spotlight on Irish indie filmmakers. To compliment this our industry symposium is jam packed with inspirational international guests, it's so brilliant that the IFB get behind us every year to support Darklight and emerging Irish talent."
