Calling Irish Filmmakers! Toronto Irish Film Festival Seeks Submissions
The deadline for submissions for the next Toronto Irish Film Festival is 31st December 2011.
Founded in April 2009 by Belfast-born Michael Barry, the boutique festival promotes Irish filmmakers to the Greater Toronto and creates a unique cultural environment for over 500,000 people who claim Irish heritage in the city to stay connected with modern Irish culture.
Last year TIRFF presented the Canadian premiere of the Irish documentary THE YELLOW BITTERN: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF LIAM CLANCY which sold out in advance of the screening. Earlier this year TIRFF presented four Irish films, three of which were Oscar nominated, at the prestigious TIFF Bell Lightbox.
TIRFF also works with some of the largest film festivals in the world. In May the festival co-presented Ian Palmer's acclaimed documentary KNUCKLE at Hot Docs, North America's largest documentary film festival while in September it partnered with the Toronto International Film Festival, North America's largest film festival, to promote the Irish programming selected this year, including the world premiere of the U2 documentary FROM THE SKY DOWN.
Speaking about TIRFF, founder Barry says "Our mandate is to tell Irish stories. We wanted to show people that, even in hard economic times, Ireland has a stellar tradition of storytelling. There's really no better city than Toronto to do this".
The Toronto Irish Film Festival takes place 9th - 10th March 2012.
