Irish Shorts ‘Pentecost’ and ‘The Shore’ Screen at Exclusive Oscar Shorts Programme

The two Irish Academy Award nominated short films PENTECOST and THE SHORE will be shown as part of a special Oscar programme released in select cinemas around the U.S, Canada and Europe throughout February.

Presented by Magnolia Pictures and Shorts HD, the theatrical release of the Academy Award nominated shorts gives people around the world an opportunity to see the nominated films prior to the Academy Awards ceremony on February 26th.

Written and directed by Peter McDonald, PENTECOST tells the story of a young altar boy who is forced to serve at an important mass and has to make a difficult choice: conform to the status quo or serve an extended ban from his passion in life...football.  Starring Andrew Bennett, Michael McElhatton and Don Wycherley, the short was produced by Emer O'Kane for EMU Productions and financed through the IFB's Signature short film scheme.  It previously
screened at the Tribeca International Film Festival and also picked up Best Irish Short Film at the Corona Cork Film Festival.

THE SHORE, written and directed by Terry George, is the uplifting story of two boyhood best friends - Joe and Paddy divided for 25 years by the tumult of The Troubles. When Joe returns home to Northern Ireland, his daughter Patricia brings the two men together for a reunion, with unexpected results. What happened all those years ago? Can old wounds be healed? The answer is both hilarious and moving.  THE SHORE is about one of the small personal reconciliations that coincide with a national reconciliation. Starring Ciarán Hinds, Kerry Condon, Conleth Hill, and Maggie Cronin, the film was produced by Oorlagh George and financed by Northern Ireland Screen, Tourism Ireland and Lough Shore Investments.

Both PENTECOST and THE SHORE are nominated in the Best Live Action Shorts category.
