Renowned Filmmaker John Boorman Confirmed for UNTITLED Selection Panel

Following a great response to the UNTITLED Screenwriting Competition, the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF) in partnership with Bord Scannán na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board (IFB) are delighted to announce this year's selection panel.  The esteemed filmmaker John Boorman will be joined on the panel by leading Irish producer James Flynn, talent agent Charlotte Kelly and JDIFF Festival Director Grainne Humphreys in selecting the overall winner of the €12,000/€16,000 prize.

Writers were invited to submit an idea for a feature film with the theme ‘1916'. Nearly 200 entries were received with a final shortlist of five writers/writing partnerships invited to write the first few scenes of their script.

On Friday 24th February the five shortlisted writers/writing teams will present the first few scenes of their script to the panel in front of a public audience in the Light House Cinema. The event will be chaired by Andrew Meehan (Development Executive, IFB).  The panel will go on to select the winning project, which will be announced at the Closing Gala of the festival on Sunday 26th February.

The writers/writing teams that will be presenting their script are:

  • Jamie Hannigan & Michael Kinirons - Come Monday, We Kill Them All
  • Hugh Travers - The Players
  • Virginia Gilbert - The Boys
  • Joseph O'Connor & Anne Marie Casey - Grace 1916
  • Jasmina Kallay - Das Irland


The event is open to the public and the tickets are free of charge. The public event will take place at 4.30pm on Friday 24th February in the Light House Cinema.  All are welcome.

James Flynn
is an award-winning producer who has worked on Irish and international features films and television productions.  In 2002 he established Octagon Films to develop and produce high quality films for the international market.  Some of his credits include Inside I'm Dancing, King Arthur, Becoming Jane, As If I Am Not There and Ondine to name a few as well as the very successful television series The Tudors and Love/Hate. In 2010 he was nominated with Juanita Wilson for a Best Live Action Short Film Academy Award for The Door.

MORE ABOUT CHARLOTTE KELLY
Charlotte Kelly
is a film and television agent with the London-based international agency Casarotto Ramsay and Associates.  She joined the company in 1996.  Since January 2008, she has been based in Dublin - where the company represents many Irish based writers and
directors.   Her clients are writers and directors for both film and television and some books for screen rights. The agency also represents a list of major theatre writers and has a very strong heads of department division (Casarotto Marsh).   

MORE ABOUT GRAINNE HUMPHREYS
Grainne Humphreys
is the very talented Festival Director of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.  She began her career programming the Junior Dublin Film Festival in the 1994.  Since then she has worked in a variety of roles in the Irish Film Institute including Education Officer and Assistant Director where she was responsible for the cultural programming of the IFI.  She joined JDIFF in January 2007 and this year's festival marks her fifth year as Festival Director.  She has also worked as a researcher on a number of film projects and is a regular film reviewer on a number of radio programmes.
