Australia Celebrates Irish Cinema During Brisbane Irish Festival

The inaugural Brisbane Irish Festival kicks off this weekend with a week long celebration of all things Irish and includes a dedicated Irish Film Night on the 14th March which will showcase Irish feature, animation, documentary and short filmmaking talent.

Tomm Moore's Oscar nominated animated feature THE SECRET OF KELLS will start the Irish Film Night.  The beautifully animated family film will screen in the Tribal Theatre on George Street, Brisbane with a programme of Irish short films.

This screening will be followed by Risteard Ó Domhnaill's compelling documentary THE PIPE which tells the story of a community tragically divided, and how they deal with a pipe that could bring economic prosperity or destruction of a way of life shared for generations.

The Film Night will close with a screening of John Michael McDonagh's black comedy THE GUARD which stars Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle.

The Brisbane Irish Festival is a week long celebration which includes a festival ball, a parade, music, films, dancing and sport.  It runs from Friday 9th March right through to St. Patrick's Day the 17th March at various venues around Brisbane.
