Irish Film GRABBERS to open Galway Film Fleadh
The opening film at this year's Galway Film Fleadh, which runs from Tuesday, 10th July until Sunday, 15th July, is GRABBERS. Directed by Jon Wright, the cast includes Richard Coyle of Prince of Persia and A Good Year, Ruth Bradley, best known for her roles in Love / Hate and Love is the Drug and Russel Tovey of Doctor Who and Gavin and Stacey fame.
GRABBERS is set on Erin Island, an idyllic fishing village off the coast of Ireland. A charming but somewhat work-shy Ciaran O' Shea (Coyle), is tasked with greeting Lisa Nolan (Bradley), a straight-laced young officer who has arrived from the mainland. However, strange doings are afoot on her arrival, as the crew of a fishing boat disappears, whales start appearing dead on the shore and a local lobsterman catches a strange tentacled creature in his trap. Soon it becomes clear to O' Shea and Nolan that there's something big out there, and that it's hungry. It's time to rally the villagers, arm the troops...and head to the pub.
Produced by Martina Niland, Tracy Brimm, Kate Myers, Piers Tempest, Eduardo Levy and James Martin for Samson Films and Forward Films, GRABBERS was funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, UK Film Council, Limelight, High Treason and Northern Ireland Screen.
The six day 2012 Galway Film Fleadh welcomes a variety of filmmaking and filmmakers from around the world, attracting directors, actors, cinematographers and artists of all generations and cultural backgrounds. The Galway Film Fleadh celebrates its 24th anniversary this year.
