Cartoon Saloon’s Moon Man to Screen at the IFI Family Film Festival

Irish Oscar nominated production company Cartoon Saloon's latest animated feature MOON MAN will have its premiere this weekend at the IFI Family Film Festival which kicks off today 5th July.

The festival will bring the best films from around the world to young film fans and includes a line-up of live action and animated features and shorts along with workshops and events.

Stephan Schesch's MOON MAN is adapted from the worldwide best-seller by Tomi Ungerer. Innocent eyes can see the Man in the Moon high in the night sky.  One night a comet flashes by.  The Man in the Moon catches its fiery tail just in time and is now racing towards planet earth......  The Irish/French/German co-production is produced by Ross Murray and Paul Young for Cartoon Saloon (The Secret of Kells) in Ireland along with Schesch Filmkreation and Le Pacte.

Irish animation and Irish creative talent will feature throughout the festival with the Irish Animation Trail on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The trail will highlight animation favourites that are animated in Ireland including THE OCTONAUTS, BALLYBRADDAN and ROY with screenings of episodes and a chance to meet with the animators and see some original artwork.

Irish short animation THE BOY IN THE BUBBLE will screen as part of one of the short programmes.   Directed by Kealan O'Rourke, it recently won the Audience Award for Favourite Animation Short at the Palm Springs Shortfest.

The Irish short animation which was written by O'Rourke and Ray Kane and is narrated by Alan Rickman (Harry Potter franchise, Love Actually) tells the story of Rupert, a 10 year old boy who falls hopelessly in love for the first time. When it all goes wrong, he wishes never to experience heartache again. Turning to a book of magic, he invokes a spell to shield him from emotion forever.  Produced by Brian Willis for Igloo Films, THE BOY IN THE BUBBLE was funded through the Frameworks animation scheme.

The IFI Family Film Festival takes place from 5th July - 8th July in the Irish Film Institute in Temple Bar Dublin.
