Digital Biscuit Enabling Creativity For Screen


The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland are delighted to announce further details on the inaugural Digital Biscuit at The Science Gallery, Trinity College, Dublin.

Digital Biscuit is an event of combined programmed talks and technology expositions from January 24th - 26th. National and global industry leaders will come together to ignite the creative industry by focusing on Ireland's capabilities as a creative and technological leader in innovative film and television production.

Digital Biscuit will host a number of international acclaimed film industry professionals who are at the forefront of new digital filmmaking techniques, including David Yates (Director Harry Potter Series), Richard Baneham (VFX Avatar), Darragh O'Connell (Co-founder Brown Bag Films), Brian Gilmore (Post Production and Technology, Brown Bag Films) and Ciaran Donnelly (Director Titanic: Blood and Steel).

Birch Hamilton, SDGI's Executive Director says "These people will give inspiring talks on the landscape of film today with advice on how directors can use technology to break boundaries, enhance their work and make their content even more visually creative".

Director and Chairman of SDGI, Ciaran Donnelly says "Digital Biscuit will place creatives at its core while also serving as a digital expo for new technologies. We want to improve the production capabilities of our most talented creators from the simplest ideas to the highest budgets. We want to empower those individuals with strong talent and ideas to engage with technology in new ways"

Digital Biscuit will open on Thursday, January 23rd with the Irish premiere screening of Side by Side, a new documentary produced by Keanu Reeves, at the IFI. The film takes an in-depth look at the revolution of digital cinema. Through interviews with directors, cinematographers, film students, producers, technologists, editors, and exhibitors, it examines all aspects of filmmaking - from capture to edit, visual effects to colour correction, distribution to archive. This will be followed by a live talk on The Digital Direction which promises an opportunity for lively debate and discussion.

Friday 24th sees a jam packed programme of cutting-edge presentations and product unveilings, with representatives from the creative industries delivering stimulating and engaging talks ranging from how Ireland can become a hub for creating content for a global audience to the evolution of content creation and consumption on mobile devices to crowdfunding your film.

Director Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father) will moderate a conversation with David Yates, Director with an Honorary International Director Interview also scheduled, guest to be revealed in January.

On Saturday 25th, in an open-plan creative area, the KinoPlay Space (Science Galleries 1 & 2), Digital Biscuit will exhibit the foremost leaders of industry technology including Canon, Autodesk, Arri, Wacom, Apple, HP and RED. There will be also be additional presentation spaces for special partner presentations, product launches, training classes and networking.
