Tickets Now On Sale for Inaugural Digital Biscuit Filmmaking Event


Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) are delighted to partner with the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland (SDGI) for the inaugural Digital Biscuit event this month, tickets for which are now available to purchase from the official website http://www.digitalbiscuit.ie/  

Digital Biscuit is an intense three day event of combined programmed talks and technology expositions from January 24th - 26thin the Science Gallery, Trinity College, Dublin. National and global industry leaders will come together to ignite the creative industry by focusing on Ireland's capabilities as a creative and technological leader in innovative film and television production.

Speaking of the event, James Hickey, Chief Executive, Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board said: "Technology is present in almost every aspect of filmmaking activity.  We are delighted to be partnering with SDGI on this exciting event which will explore integrating creativity, enterprise and technology within the audio-visual/digital content sector.  The Digital Biscuit is a great opportunity for filmmakers to gain insight from those who are at the forefront of new digital filmmaking techniques and to discuss how they will shape the future of the Irish film industry".

Digital Biscuit will host a number of international acclaimed film industry professionals who are at the forefront of new digital filmmaking techniques, including David Yates (Director Harry Potter Series), Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, The Field), Robert Levine (Author of ‘The Free Ride'), Richard Baneham (VFX Avatar), Chris Nee (Creator of Disney Junior's ‘Doc McStuffins'), Darragh O'Connell (Brown Bag Films) and Ciaran Donnelly (Director Tudors, Vikings).

Birch Hamilton, SDGI's Executive Director says Developments in film technology today present exciting opportunities for global film production and the aim of Digital Biscuit is to ensure that the Irish industry continues to be at the forefront of latest developments in film technology. We want to empower those individuals with strong talent and ideas to engage with technology in new ways. New Film technology can't create a vision for a film but what it can do is help to make that vision more vibrant, more real and reach more audiences and homes around that world then was possible even two years ago."

Director and Chairman of SDGI, Ciaran Donnelly says "Digital Biscuit will place creatives at its core while also serving as a digital expo for new technologies. We want to improve the production capabilities of our most talented creators from the simplest ideas to the highest budgets."

As part of this initiative, Digital Biscuit have two very exciting competitions in place for all animators and filmmakers out there - a Young Animators Award and a Short Filmmaker Award. SDGI acknowledge the vital support of Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and Dublin City Council whose partnership has been invaluable in bringing the initiative to fruition.

Digital Biscuit will open on Thursday, January 24th with the Irish premiere screening of Side by Side, a new documentary produced by Keanu Reeves, at the IFI. The film takes an in-depth look at the revolution of digital cinema. Through interviews with directors, cinematographers, film students, producers, technologists, editors, and exhibitors, it examines all aspects of filmmaking - from capture to edit, visual effects to colour correction, distribution to archive. The screening will be followed by a talk and an opportunity for lively debate, with the Director Chris Kenneally entitled ‘The Digital Direction'.

Friday 25th sees a jam packed programme of cutting-edge presentations and product unveilings, with representatives from the creative industries delivering stimulating and engaging talks ranging from how Ireland can become a hub for creating content for a global audience to the evolution of content creation and consumption on mobile devices to crowdfunding your film.

On the 25th and 26th the KinoPlay public open space at the Digital Biscuit will exhibit the foremost leaders of industry technology including Canon, Autodesk, Arri, Wacom, HP, Apple, Sony and RED. There will also be 20 free workshops for special partner presentations, product launches, training classes with and networking.
