‘What Richard Did’ and ‘Shadow Dancer’ Pick Up Evening Standard British Film Awards

There were prizes for two films funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) at the Evening Standard British Film Awards last night with the Best Screenplay going to Malcolm Campbell for WHAT RICHARD DID while Andrea Riseborough collected the Best Actress prize for her role as an IRA terrorist in SHADOW DANCER.

Directed by Lenny Abrahamson, WHAT RICHARD DID stars Jack Reynor, who presented Malcolm with his award last night, as Richard Karlsen, the undisputed alpha-male of his privileged set of South Dublin teenagers. The world is bright and everything seems possible, until one night Richard does something that destroys it all and shatters the lives of the people closest to him.

Malcolm, who has previously written for the popular television series Skins and Shameless, is also in the running for a Best Script IFTA at this weekend's IFTA Awards where WHAT RICHARD DID is up for a total of 10 awards.

WHAT RICHARD DID was produced by Ed Guiney for Element Pictures with Andrew Lowe executive producing with funding from the IFB and Screen Scene.

SHADOW DANCER is set in 1990s Belfast and is a heart-wrenching thriller about a woman (Andrea Riseborough) forced to betray all she believes in for the sake of her son. It is directed by Oscar winner James Marsh (Project Nim, Man on Wire), written by Tom Bradby and has a stellar cast including Clive Owen (Children of Men, Inside Man) and Gillian Anderson (The Last King of Scotland).

The film was also produced by Element Pictures with Unanimous Entertainment and was funded by the British Film Institute, BBC Films, Wild Bunch Production and LipSync Productions with the participation of the IFB.
