Irish Animation Continues Success with Two Wins
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) would like to congratulate Boulder Media on their recent Kids Animation Award at the inaugural International Emmy Kids Awards.
THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL combines 2D and 3D animation in a live-action setting, and follows the misadventures of 12-year old Gumball and his family in the weird and wonderful little town of Elmore. Featuring a stellar cast of characters, Gumball's school friends include a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana.
Boulder Media was co-producer on the series, which received its international debut in May 2011. The series picked up a Children's BAFTA award in November.
Another success for Irish animation this week was Conor Finnegan's animated short FEAR OF FLYING picking up the International Audience Award at the Glasgow Short Film Festival. The short follows a small bird with a fear of flying as it tries to avoid heading south for the winter.
The film was produced by Lovely Productions and funded through the Frameworks scheme. It picked up the James Horgan Award for Best Animation at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2012 and won the Best Animation award at the LA Shorts Festival last year.
