Best of Luck to Irish Talent at the Oscars This Weekend
Irish cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, Irish producer Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly and Irish resident, actor Daniel Day Lewis are all up for Academy Awards® at this Sundays Oscar ceremony.
Armagh-born McGarvey is nominated for his work on the Joe Wright film Anna Karenina which stars Keira Knightly. It is the second Oscar nomination for McGarvey, who previously received one in 2008 for another Wright and Knightley collaboration Atonement. As one of Ireland's leading cinematographers his credits include We Need To Talk About Kevin, World Trade Centre and The Hours to name a few.
Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly is nominated in the Best Short Film (Animation) category for Head Over Heels which was directed by Timothy Reckart. The animation sees a married couple live on opposite sides of their house; one lives on the ceiling the other on the floor.
Wicklow resident Daniel Day Lewis is nominated in the Best Actor category for Lincoln. His portrayal of the former American President has already earned him BAFTA, Golden Globes and Screen Actor Guild wins amongst many others. He previously picked up two Oscars for his roles in There Will Be Blood in 2008 and My Left Foot in 1990 and this is the fifth time that he has been nominated for an Academy Award®.
The Oscars will be held this Sunday, February 24th and will be hosted by ‘Family Guy' creator Seth MacFarlane.
