Irish Actor Domhnall Gleeson reaches A-List status with Leading Role in Universal’s ‘About Time’
The beautiful grounds of Somerset House in London provided the stunning backdrop for the premiere of Richard Curtis’ latest film About Time which stars Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson and rom-com favourite Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Midnight in Paris). Gleeson has been garnering very positive reviews for his role in the romantic comedy in which he plays geeky Tim, a 21-year-old who uses the fact that he can time-travel to get himself a girlfriend. The role marks Gleeson’s continuing and steady rise to fame.
Having made his film acting debut in Martin McDonagh’s Six Shooter, which was part financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board and went on to win an Academy Award® for Best Live Action Short, Gleeson went on to star in a host of Irish film and television projects including his first leading role in the IFB financed feature film Sensation, directed by Tom Hall. Other projects close to home include The Last Furlong, Your Bad Self as well as When Harvey Met Bob, in which he played the title role of Bob Geldolf and James’ March’s gripping thriller Shadow Dancer for which he was nominated for a British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
The past three years have been busy for Gleeson as he has also been in hot demand on an international level. Having appeared in Never Let Me Go alongside Carey Mulligan, he went on to take the role of Bill Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2. Gleeson also caught the eye of the multiple Oscar winning Coen Brothers and landed the part of Moon Kid in the award winning True Grit, acting alongside Hollywood royalty Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. Most recently he starred as Levin in Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina alongside Keira Knightly, Matthew Macfadyen and Jude Law. This role saw him nominated for an Empire award for Best Newcomer.
Demand for Gleeson’s talent does not seem to be slowing down any time soon. Watch out for the actor in upcoming feature films including John Michael McDonagh’s Calvary where he stars alongside his father Brendan Gleeson and Lenny Abrahamson’s Frank which also features Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
