Oscar Commended short The Missing Scarf available on iTunes next week
Earlier this year, Shorts International released the Oscar® Nominated Short Film program in over 350 cinemas across the US and Canada, giving audiences the chance to pick their favourite before the big night.
As well as the five shortlisted films in each category (Animation, Live Action, Documentary), three non-nominated but Academy Commended shorts were included. In the Animation section, these are the IFB-funded The Missing Scarf, directed by Eoin Duffy; Pixar’s The Blue Umbrella and À La Française by Julien Hazebroucq.
The selection will also be available to download through iTunes next week. Link to follow.
Since the shorts program has been released in North American cinemas, The Missing Scarf has received many favourable reviews, with a number of sources listing the film as the audience favourite.
Crave Online: “Bafflingly, the best animated short film on the program – by far – wasn’t even nominated. What’s up with that, Academy?”
Los Angeles Magazine: “The crowd also buzzed after a film the Academy overlooked: The Missing Scarf, a wonderfully bleak black comedy narrated by golden voiced George Takei that made my jaw drop.”
The Unaffiliated Critic: “The best of these, however, is unquestionably Eoin Duffy's The Missing Scarf.... A surprising, audacious gem.”
