First Trailer Released for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', Which Filmed Scenes in Ireland
The first trailer for the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which filmed scenes in Ireland this year, has been released online.
The seventh instalment in the blockbuster franchise filmed scenes on the island of Skellig Michael, Co. Kerry, in July of this year. Skellig Michael is one of Ireland's two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and is home to the remains of an early Christian monastic settlement.
The filming in Kerry provided employment opportunities for over 70 Irish people. Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys TD commented at the time: "The combined effort of the local community, the State agencies and the international film world made this a truly special experience for all. This was a Team Ireland effort and I believe it showcased Ireland's wonderful arts, heritage and cultural assets, as well as our technical capabilities in the film production sector."
In addition to Skellig Michael, Ireland will also be represented in Star Wars: The Force Awakens by actor Domhnall Gleeson (Frank, Brooklyn), who has secured a role in the film.
Directed by JJ Abrams, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released worldwide on December 18, 2015.
