Two Awards for Irish Short 'Breakfast Wine' at Gijon International Film Festival

Irish short film Breakfast Wine has walked away with two awards at the Gijón International Film Festival in Spain. The film won the Special Jury Prize in the Short Film Official Selection category in addition to the prize for Best Script.

Directed by Ian Fitzgibbon (Perrier's Bounty), Breakfast Wine previously received a Special Mention of the Grand Prix Irish Jury at the 2013 Cork International Film Festival. The jury stated that "Breakfast Wine features some wonderfully subtle performances and has a uniquely Irish but universally entertaining script." It also won the Director's Choice Short at the Boston Irish Film Festival in 2014.

"They say it takes just three alcoholics to keep a small bar running in a country town, but what if you've only got two?" asks the short. The film was written by Kevin Barry and stars Dylan Moran (Black Books), Pat Shortt (Garage), Ruth Bradley (Love/Hate) and David Pearse (Grabbers). It was produced by Michael Garland for Grand Pictures through the Signatures scheme.
