Watch Acclaimed Irish Film ‘Patrick’s Day’ in Cinemas from February 6th

The acclaimed Irish film Patrick’s Day, funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, will be released in Irish cinemas from Friday, February 6th.

Directed by Terry McMahon (Charlie Casanova), Patrick’s Day has proven to be a hit on the festival circuit and with critics. Since its premiere at SXSW in March 2014, it has won prizes such as Best Actor and Best Screenplay at the Hell’s Half Mile Film and Music Festival, Best Feature Narrative at the Woodstock Film Festival, the Audience Award at the Cork Film Festival and was the joint winner of the Best Irish Feature award at the Galway Film Fleadh.

At this month's Berlinale festival, lead actor Moe Dunford will be the Irish recipient of the Shooting Stars award following in the footsteps of Irish actors Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Bolger and Andrew Scott, in addition to European stars such as Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan and Daniel Brühl.

Reviews have been strong for Patrick’s Day. The Hollywood Reporter praised Dunford, stating “Moe Dunford is strong as the title character, avoiding the mannerisms and dramatic volatility usually employed to signify mental illness onscreen. His Patrick... is a gentle, not very worldly man but no beatific stereotype.” In the Irish Times, Donald Clarke described it as an “interesting, original, ultimately moving take on mental illness.” Entertainment.ie also praised Dunford’s performance: “Moe Dunford can be soft and welcoming, but something coils somewhere between those hard eyes and twisted smile. There’s an unpredictability to the character and edginess to the performance; Dunford is a real find.”

Patrick’s Day is McMahon's second feature film as director after Charlie Casanova and stars Moe Dunford, Kerry Fox, Catherine Walker and Philip Jackson. When a young man with mental health issues becomes intimate with a suicidal flight attendant his obsessive mother enlists a dysfunctional cop to separate them. The film was produced by Tim Palmer and Rachel Lysaght for Ignition Film Productions and was funded by the IFB, RTÉ, Forefront Features, Movie House Cinemas and Screen Scene
