Frank and Patrick’s Day Lead the Way in the 2015 IFTA Nominations

The Irish Film and Television Academy have announced the nominations for the 2015 edition of the Irish Film and Television Awards, with the categories dominated by a wide range of projects funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board.

Frank, directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan, and Patrick’s Day written and directed by Terry McMahon lead the pack with nine nominations each. Glassland directed by Gerard Barrett has been nominated in six categories.

The six films nominated in the category of Best Film are Patrick’s Day, Frank, Glassland, I Used to Live Here directed by Frank Berry, Noble directed by Stephen Bradley and Song of the Sea directed by Tomm Moore, which was nominated for an Academy Award® earlier this year.

Abrahamson, Barrett and McMahon are nominated for Best Director, alongside John Carney for his film Begin Again. Barrett and McMahon are also nominated for Best Script alongside Frank Berry for I Used to Live Here and Will Collins for Song of the Sea.

Up for the prize of Actor in a Lead Role Film are Moe Dunford for Patrick’s Day, Colin Farrell for Miss Julie, Michael Fassbender for Frank and Jack Reynor for Glassland. Nominated for Actress in a Lead Role Film are: Tara Breathnach for A Nightingale Falling, Jordanne Jones for I Used to Live Here, Simone Kirby for Jimmy’s Hall and Deirdre O’Kane for Noble.

In the category of Actor in a Supporting Role Film are Domhnall Gleeson for Frank, Allen Leech for The Imitation Game, James Nesbitt for Gold and Andrew Scott for Pride. The nominees for Actress in a Supporting Role Film are Kerry Condon for Gold, Sinéad Cusack for Queen and Country, Sarah Greene for Noble and Catherine Walker for Patrick’s Day.

Nominees for Best documentary are Blood Fruit, Christina Noble: In a House that Ceased to Be, One Million Dubliners, Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story, all of which were IFB-funded, alongside Road from DoubleBand Films.

For Animation, An Ode to Love, Fresh Cut Grass, Somewhere Down the Line and The Ledge End of Phil (From Accounting) were nominated.

Other nominations for IFB-funded films include Rockmount (Short Film), Toni Collette for International Actress in Glassland and Jessica Chastain for International Actress in Miss Julie. Tom Collins, Eoin McNamee and Paul Walker were nominated (Script Drama) for An Bronntanas while Colin Murphy was nominated in the same category for The Guarantee.
