Congratulations to IFB Titles, Michael Inside and Mother & Baby on Cork Film Festival Accolades
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) congratulates the teams behind Frank Berry’s Michael Inside and Mia Mullarkey’s Mother & Baby, which won the Audience Award and Best Documentary Short accolades, respectively.
Frank Berry’s Michael Inside, which received its world premiere earlier this year at the Galway Film Fleadh, portrays the institutionalising impact of the prison system as it depicts Michael McCrea, a young and impressionable teenager who is sentenced to three months in prison after being caught holding a bag of drugs for his friend’s older brother. The film, which is produced by Donna Eperon, Tristan Orpen Lynch and Aoife O’Sullivan, sees Berry teaming up once again with the young actor, Dafhyd Flynn, following 2014 collaboration, I Used To Live Here.
Discarded in death as they were in life, Mia Mullarkey’s Mother & Baby bears witness to children of the fallen women of Ireland. It was written and directed by Mullarkey and produced by Alice McDowell. The Real Short received its world premiere at Cork alongside eight other IFB Focus and Real Short titles.
This year’s Cork Film Festival saw 115 features, 34 documentaries and 116 shorts presented during the course of the festival and for a full list of award-winners, please click here.
